Meditation for the animals we love

Meditation for the animals we love

How can we help our much loved pets as their end draws near? The bond between our animals can be so, so strong and so when the time comes that they are dying we want to be able to do all we can to support them through their last days, hours or moments of life.

Compassion in end of life care is not just reserved for humans, it is for all creatures, all beings and there is much we can do to be there for our furry and feathered friends. As I write this I am reminded of a image that came up on my Facebook feed. It showed a young man holding up a placard that said, “I’m not going to watch the film if the dog in it dies”. I think there are many of us who can relate to that.

I contacted by some friends when their beautiful old dog was dying. They asked for help and it compelled me to record this guided meditation. It is about how we can help take the dog where he or she may want to go. It maybe something you find useful as it is, or it may prompt you to create your own version. I simply hope that it helps in some way.

Caring for our beloved pets at the end of their life is as important, as necessary, as heartbreaking and as beautiful as caring for the humans we love. We can also feel the same sense of helplessness and a deep desire to do everything we can to help them feel loved, feel comforted and feel seen, right to the very end.

If you are near to losing an animal you love, my thoughts are with you both.
